Rituals

In the context of Bhakti Marga (the path of love and devotion, one of the main spiritual paths in Hinduism), rituals play a central and indispensable role. They are not mere mechanical actions or empty formalities; they are powerful tools that help cultivate, express, and deepen unconditional love for the Divine.

Purpose of Rituals

1.     Turning the Mind Toward God: The human mind is naturally restless and outward-turned. Rituals (pūjā, abhishekam, ārati, japa, kīrtan, etc.) give the scattered mind a concrete focus—the murti (deity form), the name, the mantra, the sacred space—so the devotee consciously turns inward and upward toward God.

2.     Expressing Love and Surrender: Bhakti is all about love. Just as you express love for a person by cooking their favorite food, decorating the house for them, or singing for them, rituals are loving offerings to God.

3.     Purifying the Heart and Reducing Ego: Every ritual contains an element of humility and surrender (bowing, prostrating, chanting mantras of surrender). By repeatedly performing these acts, the ego slowly dissolves and the heart becomes softer and more receptive to Divine Grace.

4.     Receiving Divine Grace: In Bhakti traditions, rituals are seen as channels through which God’s Grace flows directly into the devotee. The Lord is believed to be fully present in the consecrated murti during the ritual. When you perform abhishekam, ārati, or offer food with love, God personally accepts it and bestows blessings in return.

5.     Building a Personal Relationship: Rituals create intimacy. Just as daily conversations and gestures build a relationship with a loved one, daily rituals nurture a living, loving relationship with God. Over time the devotee begins to feel God as Mother, Father, Friend, or Beloved.

6.     Transforming Ordinary Actions into Divine Play: Advanced devotees eventually offer every action—eating, walking, working—as a ritual to God (karma yoga merging into bhakti). But beginners need structured rituals to train the mind in this attitude of constant offering.

Guruji teaches that rituals performed with love and full attention awaken the sleeping love in the heart faster than almost anything else.

Summary

Rituals are the language of love between the soul and God. They train the mind, purify the heart, attract Divine Grace, and transform an intellectual idea of God into a living, loving relationship. In Bhakti Marga, rituals are never ends in themselves—when done with the right feeling (devotion/bhava), they become the fastest vehicle to reach the ultimate goal: pure, selfless, ecstatic love for the Divine.

Puja

45 minutes / In-Person

Puja is a sacred devotional ritual in Bhakti Marga, where offerings such as flowers, incense, and light are presented to a deity’s murti or image, accompanied by mantras and bhajans (devotional songs). Rooted in Hindu tradition, it fosters a personal and loving connection with the divine. The purpose is to cultivate bhakti (devotion), purify the mind of worldly tendencies, and align with the divine goal of attaining God.

In the Hindu tradition it is said that, ‘If you believe a stone to be a stone, it will be a stone. But, if you believe it to be God, it will become God.’ It illustrates how faith transforms the murti into a living divine presence.

Puja creates a sacred space for gratitude and surrender, inviting blessings for spiritual growth. Benefits include purifying the mind and soul, reducing stress, enhancing focus, and fostering community during group ceremonies . It is believed to clear karmic obstacles and promote harmony.

Whether performed at home or in a temple, puja is a heartfelt act of love that transforms the practitioner’s inner and outer life, making it accessible to all seeking divine connection.

God is unlimited. He hears our call.

Devotional service done to the deity invites divine presence. We can enjoy a loving relationship with God here and now.

We can feel His presence and taste the bliss of bhakti (Divine Love).
